Chief Engineer's Report U-330
Patrol #4

Duration:     26.01.1940 - 16.02.1940, 22 days on sea

We had an enormous problem with fuel contamination on this patrol. My best guess was that the fuel was old and not stabilized with bactericides, hence a sludge formed over time that found its way into the filters, choking off fuel from the engines when high fuel flows were needed, as in a run at Flank. I strongly suggest we empty out the entire bunker of fuel and clean all fuel manifolds to insure proper future operation.

The other problem was with the torpedoes once again. Several duds, although we constantly strive to insure their correct maintenance when onboard. I am at a loss to suggest a remedy at this time.
