Kommandant's Report U-330
Patrol #4

Duration:     26.01.1940 - 16.02.1940, 22 days on sea

The patrol went well, except for the fuel problem we ran into. Evidently, according to the Chief Engineer, we had a buildup of sludge in the fuel bunkers which worked its way into the fuel feed lines and finally into the filters, clogging them completely.

We were also still plagued by the incessant problems of dud torpedoes. This patrol only had two out of six, but that is still a 33% failure rate. Again, the mechanics constantly insure they are running correctly, especially making certain that the battery temperatures are constantly within correct ranges and are sufficiently charged. Still, we see problems.

I understand that I am to receive a new VII B and to report immediately for training. I wish to bring as many of my crew with me as possible, since they have performed in a stellar manner and know I can count on them. If possible, I wish to respectfully request this to be granted.

No other problems were encountered.
